Holly Jackson never disappoints. She ate this one. I was literally at the edge of my seat with this book, reading it every single moment I had to spare. I even stayed up till sunrise when the book started getting intense. I thought the book was predictable; my prediction being: Red had a secret, but oh this book was an onion. So many layers.

And the ending? Goodness. It hurt. Also I hate Oliver (she wrote his arc so well, I actually despise him)

The writing was beautiful, and the way Red's thoughts were incoherent, and haphazard, it was done so realistically. Like Jackson transcripted the thoughts of a real person. It was hard to get into the book at first, but it began picking up the pace quicker than I had the will to put it down.

I overall struggled to finish this.

The general plot didn’t interest me and the characters were frustrating. I wish the plot twists had more of a punch to them.

Another belting book by Holly Jackson, which I read after loving her A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series and The Reappearance of Rachel Price. Obviously there are some similarities with the female teenage protagonist with a complex inner world, which I really enjoyed and wished I’d read when I was a teen! I love that the story happened over the course of a single night and that so much was packed into that timeframe. I was tense and left guessing right until the end and did not guess the ‘big reveal’. The narration wasn’t as good as her previous books, but that’s me nit picking!

I don’t know how to feel.
That was insane, slightly predictable at certain parts, but still great nonetheless.

Oliver is a prick though and not too upset about his ending

Everyone in this book made me so mad. I genuinely did not like any of them. Although, I do admire how well Holly Jackson used this to her advantage in crafting a story that challenges the innate selfishness of humankind.

It also made me think of 'Midnight' doctor who, which is my favourite episode. So that's a plus.

Overall, not as good as Jackson's other books. But still an enjoyable, engaging, and captivating read.
