Reading this late at night made for an intense, surreal experience, as the gorgeous pictures of maps and diagrams are paired with heavy-handed (and often beautiful) philosophical essays about humankind and its relationships with mapping the universe. My head was swimming by the time I finished it and fell asleep, but I slept dreaming about the desire to know the unknown. From the stars, to the Earth, to heaven and hell, people have been trying to chart their worlds for as long as there have been people, and this part Art History, part Intro to Philosophy book gives a poetic overview of our innermost desires to know about where we come from and where we're going next.
