What a huge MEH. I actually sorta liked the first part. And I thought the second part was ok. But then it didn’t go anywhere. I felt like I wasted my time reading the first part of two completely different books only to find neither of them has an ending. I read this book thinking it was going somewhere and was sorely disappointed.

Hailed as "extraordinary" by NYT. However, I found the book to be rather ordinary. It purports to be three stories that connect in abstract ways, hence the title, asymmetry. Rather, the three stories were disconnected. The first novella is about a young editor besotted with an older, famous writer. The second novella, the most intriguing read, is about an Iraqi American being interrogated at an airport. The last part is about an interview with the famous writer. The connection in the novel felt rather artificial and I found the writing to be tedious. Skip it, too heavy for summer in any case.

I enjoyed reading this! But I think half of it went over my head. Will re-read sometime in the next year and see if it makes more sense.
