Another great, if not all that original, idea that suffers from the franchise it sits within. Considering how short these books are, it took a long time to get to the crux of the story. Those scenes, when Zackie and his friend were realising the truth, were pretty well done and had the potential to do great things. Unfortunately, it petered out and the rest of the story was pretty run-of-the-mill. The end 'twist' was particularly grating, partially as it makes no sense at all, but also it completely cheapened the quality of the story as a whole.

I fell like the concept was very good and it had a lot of potential but the story… a bit meh. We follow the main character Zachie (that name for some unknown reason just irritated me) who had a passion for weighing scary stores which his best drink Alex loves, but is also scared of a a lot of things - something his friend Adam takes advantage of and mocks him for. He come in possession of an old typewriter and what he writes comes true. Is is coincidence? Or does the typewriter have a special power? Or is it him?… yh it was alright, characters and writing okay with an interesting concept of the typewriter but the actual plot wasn’t my favourite. It also reads a bit too quickly with lots of very short chapters and a oh don’t get to embrace it as much as I’d want to.

3.5 stars because it ended on a funny note, I wasn't a fan of all the descriptions because it came to be a bit too much.

As a child I wanted to be a writer, and so the idea of a typewriter that could make the stories you wrote on it come true really appealed to me. I thought it was super cool, and that was the part of this book that I liked the most. While the ending wasn't the best in Goosebumps history, the rest of the book made up for that. Definitely one I have always enjoyed!

Zackie loves writing scary stories for his two friends, Alex and Adam. One day they enter a store where there is a typewriter he’s fond of which the owner lets him take. Once he starts to use the typewriter, his stories start to come to life. This was a lot of fun to read. Watching stories come to life is always an exciting plot because the possibilities are endless. The story was a slow build up, but it went by quickly as the chapters were super short. The ending was not what the reader was expecting; the final chapter took them by surprise, it was like an alternative ending. The reader also liked that the characters talked about story structure and about story endings.
