SPECIAL A

Otherwise known as "MARY-SUE THE MANGA"

description

Seriously, what's so flipping great about this piece of crap, anyway? I hate perfect characters, no matter if they're "cute" or not. I mean, in order for me to like a character they have to have qualities that I like that in my eyes make him/her perfect, not just some stock traits that society would view "perfect" as a whole.

Utter shit. I didn't even finish this first volume.

I reread this series this month, and it was a lot of fun to revisit. I read this series as a teen and loved it then, and I'm happy that it still (mostly) holds up for me now. Some of it may just be due to nostalgia, and there are some aspects of the series that haven't aged well, but overall I still enjoyed it very much. It's still surprisingly pretty funny too. Some of the humor is of a more slapstick, cartoon-y type, but I think that works in a series like this, especially considering the outlandish stuff Hikari and Takishima are able to do.

Speaking of which, Hikari and Takishima have such a fun rivals-to-lovers storyline, and that's the strongest part of the series for me. I love how much Takishima clearly admires Hikari and always stands up for her when other people try to put her down for always being in second place. And I also love that Hikari stands up for herself too and gives as good as she gets when Takishima teases her, and how she believes so strongly in rising to a challenge and working hard and giving a task her all, no matter the outcome. They're such a great power couple when they get together.

I also like that even though Hikari and Takishima are the main characters, the other characters in the class and outside the class get their own storylines and chapters to follow their perspective too. Everyone gets a chance to shine and grow, and that makes the series even better.

So yeah, 4 stars from me. Nostalgia wants me to give 5, but there are a few things that I wish were written differently, so 4 stars feels right for me.

I wasn't to sure how I was going to feel about this manga so I never thought to much to looking it up, but there it was looking so lonely in the book store without any others in its series nearby and it was a steal! I am glad I have a weakness for lonely books otherwise I may not know what a fun series this really is.

First off this is a high school life kind of book and I am moving away from theses as I get older but the child is side still finds its way to enjoy theses kind of books.

It is not a haram like [b:Ouran High School Host Club, Vol. 1|1087204|Ouran High School Host Club, Vol. 1 (Ouran High School Host Club, #1)|Bisco Hatori|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1388328993s/1087204.jpg|2192688] or [b:Hana-Kimi, Vol. 1|282356|Hana-Kimi, Vol. 1 (Hana-Kimi, #1)|Hisaya Nakajo|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1388186378s/282356.jpg|273909], there are other girls in this elite club.

The whole premise is that this girl has been trying to out do her male rival since he beat her as a child. The one thing I found annoying was that this was repeated in every chapter but I get why they did.

I do like all the characters in this story but I feel the only ones I truly have seen are the rivals, the other are there and I know their history (repeated in every chapter) but I don't know them yet and I hope I will in the later volumes as I plan on finishing this series!

This vaguely reminds me of Ouran High Host Club but without the harem aspect. I’m not really fond of it but it’s ok. I think my students will like the shenanigans.
