Problematic writing and just isn’t as I hoped.

I just really enjoyed this book.

It was satisfying to keep reading to find all the pieces and how they fit together throughout the narrative, and to learn more about the characters. I liked the different expressions of love and friendship, the hint of something that lasts beyond death, and the exploration of what it means to grow old.

This was absolutely beautifully written. The story is multilayered and intricately woven. I learned a lot and found myself attached to the characters in all of their imperfections. Some parts of this were very hard to read because the author was unflinching in showing how people hurt each other and how violent the world can be. There were also very tender passages which showed the depths of love we can experience with each other when we choose to.

This book is an amazing translation, it always astonishes me when a translator is able to work the text into something that is as beautifully written as in the original language. This book is a study of love and what it is to truly be loved by the ones around us.
