Another GREAT read in this series! I enjoyed the change-up on Thomas's tutelage, especially because this alternate Spook is so damaged. The enemy itself was a little incomplete, as was the real problem in this story-I think the main plot ended up taking a back seat to the B and C story lines of the Fiend (released in the previous book) and Tom's interaction with his new master. Super creepy and a real page turner, plus the illustrations at the beginning of each chapter are amazing!
The characters have been expanded upon, though Tom himself doesn't seem to be developing a whole lot. There is a growing rift between characters, and I feel that Delaney is trying to politicize the drama with his readers-things are not as easy as black and white, which is a running theme in these stories.
Definitely read this book-but read the others first! Jumping right into book five isn't advisable!

I know these books are technically young adult/preteen books, but they really don't feel like it. Witches that hook you with TALONS and drink your blood? The Devil rising from Hell and terrorizing a medieval society? That's pretty terrifying stuff!
Anyways, I really do like these books and they're perfect for when I want an easy, fantasy read that won't take me all that long to go through. I heard they're making a movie (or made a movie already?) with Jeff Bridges but since it keeps getting pushed back, I don't have high hopes that it'll be any good and I'm ok with that. The imagery in these books is pretty good, although it'd be cool to see some of the monsters (like the Skelt mentioned in this book) in real time.

One of the creepier stories in the series to date. Otherwise, typically very good and engrossing.
