I feel like the cast of characters was quite the downgrade from the first two series. I liked the side characters and reoccurring demigods well enough, but Apollo was so insufferable, I hope he'll have grown as a person in the second book.

Also it feels like nothing happened until the big showdown? Feels like a more solid way of storytelling than the previous books, which were like video game quests, but I don't like change so it was weird to not have a bunch of little adventures.

Still liked the book tho

Pretty mediocre as far as Riordanverse books go. Also, I get the idea of having a shallow/vain character and having them grow by accepting their physical flaws but the body-shaming felt a bit heavy for a middle-grade book.

I really enjoyed this book! It was a little more slow paced than the PJO and Heroes of Olympus series, but was still really good.

2023 reread: no idea why i never reviewed this book the first time around, since it was as much of a blast the second time around as i remembered! apollo is such a dick (also wow the fatphobia from him yikes) but he’s also endearing. i also love meg, she’s such a feisty, hilarious girl and i cant wait to read more about her!!

super excited to finally move on and read the last four books in this series and see how everything plays out!
