I actually really enjoyed this story at the start. I was intimidated, to say the least, but I quickly felt eased into this story. However, as time went on I quickly started to realize that this story was dragging. So many inner monologues and thinking to themselves and I just was bored to death with some of the pieces of this story. I did audiobook this and I honestly fell asleep a few times and still felt like I didn't miss much of anything. The buildup to the murder and directly afterwards were enthralling pieces of the story. The rest didn't grip me as well. Even the last chapter felt overblown...I just kept wondering what more could be said now. Had this not been a challenge read, I would have not finished it. I'm glad it's over!

A princípio é difícil porque a escrita é bastante densa, mas conforme fui me acostumando fiquei cada vez mais imergida na história e consegui sentir emoções variadas durante a leitura. Raskolnikov é um personagem bastante interessante e complexo. Fiquei surpresa em como várias das discussões desse livro escrito em meados do séc. XIX continuam tão atuais. Os únicos momentos em que eu acho que o livro peca um pouco é quando a narração deixa de acompanhar Raskolnikov pra dá uma olhada nos outros personagens, não acho que tenha acrescentado muita coisa pros temas gerais da trama. Aliás, embora eu normalmente não curta muito narração em primeira pessoa, penso que essa seria a história perfeita pra ser contada em primeira pessoa através da perspectiva do Raskolnikov. Enfim, leitura bastante interessante que vale a pena revisitar no futuro.

This was my first Dostojevsky. This book was honestly so much more interesting than I anticipated! I thought there wouldn’t really be a plot beside the murder but I was pleasantly suprised that the different threads of the story kept connecting as the story unfolded. I found the writing style absolutely brilliant and look forward to read more Dostojevsky! At times, this story was heartbreaking and also made me contemplate about many hard topics. Another thing I didnt expect at all, was that sometimes the dialogues were actually really funny! Raskolnikov’s character was also very intriguing, I tried to understand his split personality and moods, and also found the psychological aspects of the book extraordinary! Thank you Mr Dostoevsky for writing this important and intriguing novel! 
(5⭐️ for now, might change it later if I find one of his books even closer to my heart!)

I took a deep breath before embarking on this book. The title, the author, Russian literature in general just seemed very intimidating. I was surprised just how easy of a read this was. It was entertaining; it was thought-provoking; it was fascinating. The characters and their Russian names were a bit confusing at first, but the Kindle edition I read has a character list that I constantly referred to throughout the book. I'm very happy to have read this book, and plan on reading more Dostoevsky in the near future.
