Wildblood has a setting that I don't see often (ever) which is the reason I gravitated toward the story! I was so very intrigued by the Jamaican jungles and the tours that Victoria assists with that I almost forgot there was going to be a magical element! And boy when that hits, it's on!

This book is absolutely going to be for those readers who love fantasy with their romance and not romance with their fantasy, if that makes sense.

There are some incredibly heavy topics in Wildblood, so please be sure to protect your peace when you read it, and of course - check the content and trigger warnings

Wild blood was broody, dark, aggressive and deep. However it was a struggle for me to get through. While it was a very good story, I am not saying it was bad, I think it was a lot more……descriptive in the situations than what I am normally comfortable with. This applies to the description of things such as an “SA”, an animal death, and some aggressive violence situations. I still think the story was good, but it was hard for me personally to get through.

The narrator did really well, but even on normal speed it was extremely fast. Just make sure to really pay attention if you are listening to the audio.

Special thanks to netgalley and the publisher for letting me listen to the audio arc for this review.

This YA adventure story contains powerful themes of choosing forgiveness, overcoming horrific obstacles & traumas, and claiming your own destiny. The author has thoughtfully included a list of content warnings at the beginning of the book, with additional information on her website. Victoria’s character arc is a delight to read, the jungle terrors are chillingly intriguing, and the writing style is simultaneously lush and accessible.

My only hesitation in the rating is that I wasn’t convinced by the chemistry with Thorn. My distrust/suspicions were raised the entire time, so I found him an unconvincing love interest, despite how handsomely he was described. For some readers, this might not matter.

I picked this book up hoping for a fantasy adventure. However, it turned out to be more of romance with the fantasy in the background. I generally enjoy romances but this insta-love wasn’t very enjoyable for me especially since she loved her love interest for all the things she was annoyed by with her “brother”.

Pros: the writing was enjoyable + descriptive. It was dark and brutal but not unbearable. The setting was cool. I liked that it took place in most of the jungle and all the creatures that were created. I liked that the female MC chose her own happiness in the end.

Cons: I didn’t care for any of the characters. I found the female mc to be annoying. She was naive but confident, also the strongest Wildblood but also couldn’t stand up for herself. I also feel like the timeline wasn’t very clear. I think it would’ve helped if the chapter titles had denoted the days.

Neutrals: All of the connections seemed fluid. I almost felt like she could’ve had 3 different love interests. The pacing was okay.
