And it sounds terrible but it is, in fact, freeing: the idea that queer does not equal good or pure or right. It is simply a state of being—one subject to politics, to its own social forces, to larger narratives, to moral complexities of every kind.

A very important and lyrical memoir on the complexities of queer/lesbian domestic abuse. Very informative and extremely uncomfortable to read, but themes like the ones in this book are not meant to be comfortable.

Excellent writing that captures the tension, confusion, and fear of being in an abusive relationship. I also really liked the creative format the memoir took with a different theme or perspective each chapter.

Carmen is a talented author. I loved how she broke it down into parts that really connected with their titles. I found myself highlighting several parts of the book. Everything just made sense! It just did! I cannot explain how real this book felt and I’m very excited I read it.

In the dream house is Carmen’s memoir and she found a way to pull me in eventhough I am not queer. She made me see things from their point of view and how human they are.

Domestic Abuse is a very serious issue and she made me understand how worse it is to be abused by someone that looks just like you.
