Good YA read, like the mystery and shifting perspectives in a whodunit suspense novel

Honestly an amazing book, but.... it just fall short of the hype. I understand that it was a thriller but it just didn’t give off that vibe. Most of the book, it’s just them trying to copped with the death instead of actually trying to figure it out. I had no problem with it though since I love the characters. But by the way everyone is hyping it up and the genre it was in, I was just expecting so much more.
Although the characters are so well developed. You could see their development throughout the book for each and every character. I must admit, I didn’t like some of the characters at first such as Cooper because I didn’t find his POV interesting. But by the end, I care for each one of the character deeply.
I love the dynamics in this, the romance, family aspect and the friends aspect. I just love how they all become such good friends and their family has also been involve in this. They all had their hardships but they had face them together.
Also I find this book a bit disturbing. The ending did surprise me, I really wasn’t expecting that. Also it’s so cool to watch these stereotypes get flipped. Yes, they had an essence of those types but they are so much more than that. I could really appreciate this part of the book.
Overall, it was a nice read. I love the book. But I can’t give it that 4 or 5 stars it deserves just because my expectations was way too high.

I am forever and always an Addy stan.
This was quite good. I'll be honest, I was going into it thinking that this wasn't going to be for me, but I genuinely had a good time with this. Also, there are a lot of themes that I think readers of any age can get from this.
I'm not gonna lie, the ending was a bit meh for me, just because all of it's coming out in one big "bang" and I would have preferred a "big reveal" type ending; but, that's just personal taste. I'll also say that the way McManus had me guessing throughout the whole book was quite well done; I didn't know who to believe and wasn't sure who did what. It built up suspense and made all of the characters seems suspect, which is what you want in a mystery!
Overall, a pretty dang good book! I might read the rest of the series at a later date, but the jury is out on that. Also, if you're not an Addy fan, don't talk to me...

Wow I could not stop listening to this. I kind of guessed the ending though, so I was a tad let down by the climax, BUT so many important messages were present in this book!

What a fun, young adult, murder mystery.
I obtained this book for my daughter, but after finding this to be too adult for an 11 year old, I read it.
5 kids go into detention. This is your Breakfast Club ensemble. One of the students die. The remaining 4 are under suspicion.
This book kept me turning pages. The story was well written, as well as the characters, even if they were cliche. I will read the sequel.
