We begin by witnessing the kidnapping of criminal/FBI informant Nicholas Fox by a smash-and-grab gang. The gang plans to use his unique talents for a diamond heist - but little does Fox know, the diamond heist is just the beginning for this gang. Their next crime could jeopardize the lives of thousands. Enter Fox's handler/(maybe?) romantic partner FBI Special Agent Kate O'Hare. Fox and O'Hare can foil the crime and save the day, but only if O'Hare is able to find Fox first!

In many ways, this book reminds me of a fun action-adventure movie. The plot isn't realistic by any means (many, many laws broken and possibly iffy science), but somehow, the ridiculousness of everything adds to the enjoyment level. It also includes a lot of action, a large cast of characters, and intricate cons and heists worthy of Oceans Eleven. Evanovich and Goldberg are skilled in describing the exotic settings that the characters visit, adding additional vibrancy to the book.

What I didn't love about this book was the ending. Without giving too much away, I felt that the mystery was resolved strangely, as it didn't feel like many of the key plot points were resolved - though maybe they will be addressed in the next book? It also seemed very abrupt, as if there was an extra chapter at the end that wasn't included in my library's eBook copy.

Do note that this book often discusses an infectious disease. Given the COVID-19 pandemic and how much it's touched our lives, I wouldn't necessarily call it an escapist novel. Also, this book works as a standalone. The plot is easy to follow along with, though new readers may miss out on some of the backstories and relationships of the recurring characters.
