“Sometimes, making the world a better place just involves creating space for the people who are already in it.”

TW: Transphobia, DV, SA, Child Abuse, Parental Neglect

This is a book that angered me so much. I wanted to scream so often for Lily. Lily who was so incredible, Lily who deserved the world and more. I know she’s fictional but in so many ways, Lily is not fictional. I feel like I don’t have the words as a cis woman but I feel I learned so much from reading this book. Having Lily’s chapters be written by a trans woman and hearing from Jennifer Finney Boylan at the end of the book was so touching. Asher was beautifully written as well. He is a complex and sensitive boy. A boy who was learning too. This book will stick with me for a very, very long time.

Love the author. Love the throw back to a court drama unfolding as the story unfolds. I’ve missed this aspect of Jodi Picoult’s storytelling in her past few novels.

From the start this book was absolutely incredible. I loved the multiple pov as I feel like it really added to the story, and gave more depth and perspective to the events. This book offered a look into the world of privilege and what it means to be who you truly are. I really enjoyed learning more about bee keeping and honey production, as it wasn’t a topic I knew much about before! I also found the crime and court case elements to be very interesting, and it’s actually what made me pick this book up to begin with, and I’m so glad I did! 🐝🍯✨

This book was absolutely wow. I like going into my books with little to no background knowledge and this book was a journey like non other. I felt deeply for Lily and her past.
Her story was absolutely heartbreaking and really spoke heavily on the multiple issues those within the Trans community have to continuously face at the hands of bigotry.
Check those trigger warnings.

Lilly needed some therapy before just getting surgery. She needed to be honest with everyone around her about who she truly is. Asher needs to get his anger in control before he actually does hurt someone like his father. Did get a bit too preachy and controversial as the story went on
