This book follows a group of women and Gregory as they read through the works of Jane Austin and use the themes of love and loss to ruminate on their own lives. Each book club participant tells the reader all about their past in a non linear way and keeps dropping different antidotes until the very end.

This book is amazing for those who -despite what the title suggests- haven't read Austen and are looking for a light summer read. It won't do you much good to expect deep or expert takes on Austen's books. Nor should you, because the book is precisely about women who love these books but aren't literary experts and so their analysis is heavily inspired by what they encounter in their own lives. This idea that you can read a book twice and walk away with a different interpretation based on where you are in life is heavily emphasized.

The characters and their story are immensely charming and the book presents a snapshot of their lives. It was really fun to learn about their past, their present and potential future.

I was listening to this in audiobook and I was just having a hard time grasping the story and trying to figure out the plot.
It’s kinda slow at the beginning. I try to give my books about three chapters before I DNF them.
I found myself loathing the idea of listening to this book because I was not invested in it.
I hope others found it more charming and fun than I did.

I really wanted to rate this book higher because I loved Bernadette's stories. I felt Grigg was too undeveloped. Also, the beginning was slow and the ending to sudden. This is more about character than story and so I felt there should be more character. But, on the other hand, it was mostly enjoyable.

As a Jane Austen fan, this was a waste of time. I felt no investment in any of the characters and it was overall just a disappointment. My time would have been better spent re-reading Austen.

The Jane Austen Book Club is very entertaining, but it is not a literary masterpiece. The references to Austen are clear but sometimes a bit too much, as if it was not expected that the reader would get it on her own. The plot was very enjoyable though and it was a good read.

This was a novel that had many layers. Although it centers around a group of people gathering to read the six novels of Jane Austen, each chapter focusing on a meeting and the host of the meeting, the novels are barely discussed at all. While not as developed as I would have liked, the characters are for the most part likable, even though I feel as if I will soon forget them. The book was well written and made for a perfect read for a lazy summer day but did not stand out to me. I wish there had been more character and more plot action, although I greatly enjoyed the flashbacks.
