“not everything is what it seems, you know. you’re going to have to figure it out sooner or later. sooner would be better.”
synopsis:
the story follows joanne, as she adjusts to her parenthood and navigates unexpected challenges after her husband's estranged and troubled 20-year-old daughter, chloe, moves into their home.
thanks to booktok for introducing this unputdownable, mindblowing thriller book.
plot: ⭐️ 5.0
first of all, i don't know how many times i've felt gaslighted and manipulated the whole time i was reading this book. the plot and writing style is phenomenal. you will not be able to put this book down the moment you open it. it was definitely a page-turner. it is a kind of story that you can definitely finish in just one sitting.
characters: ⭐️ 3.0
are the characters likable? a huge NO. i hated all of them and they have all tested my patience. if i can just go inside the book and slam them, i will gladly do so.
but to be honest, i actually felt sad for joanne, but i still feel irritated whenever she's making stupid and nonsense decisions. evie is the only character i liked, because she's a cute baby.
ending: ⭐️ 4.5
the whole story is full of twist after twist. to be honest, as a frequent psychological thriller reader, i somehow predicted the plot twist and i almost scream, 'i was right all along!', but the story still kept me entertained. there is just one thing i dislike about it: the open-ending. for me, it feels like the book is not really finished and i was looking for something more.
overall, this book is still an amazing collection of mystery and suspense. this is definitely a good story especially to those who are just starting their psychological thriller era.

Apart from that, how can it be that this was interesting but at the same time not. Most of this book was already predictable because of the prologue. How boring is that.
It just always went on and on with Chloe’s bratty behavior, for SO MANY PAGES. Like we get it, do something new, something interesting. Please
