I had yet to see a book that tackled different fears around the first day of school (leaving a parent, anxiety, struggles to see the board, etc.) until this book. It is a definitely a must read for a new student. Only thing that holds me back from using it in a storytime (think my My First Book kiddos!!) is that it is LONG and rather wordy and I don't know if it is feasible to leave pages out.

Oh man! Two of my favorite creators working together? This book is such a treat. So cute. And ultimately super reassuring for kids nervous about starting school. I love it.

Liz Climo's art is perfectly paired with Jory John's writing. These characters are adorable and will be very relatable for young readers. I love that even the teacher was nervous and open about it!

This is the perfect back to school book for early elementary! Don't worry, everyone is nervous about something.

This could be my favorite "scared to start school" book! It's so funny, with each animal expressing anxiety about their particular "creature feature," in the words of the Wild Kratts. (Sloth is nervous about being too slow to get to school on time, Parrot is nervous about repeating what others say over and over . . . ) The best part is that even the teacher admits to being nervous on the first day.

At first I thought this book was eh but as I continued it grew on me. It's a great story about how it's okay to be nervous to start something new (like school) and how everyone might struggle with something different because we are all different. Awesome for kids who might feel nervous about starting school for the first time, or changing schools, or grade levels.
📖📖📖📖
It's almost the first day of school, and the animals are nervous. Sloth worries about getting there on time, snake can't seem to get his backpack fastened onto his body, and bunny is afraid she'll want to hop around instead of sitting still. When they all arrive at their classroom, though, they're in for a surprise: Somebody else is nervous too. It's their teacher, the armadillo! He has rolled in as a ball, and it takes him a while to relax and unfurl. But by the next day, the animals have all figured out how to help one another through their jitters. School isn't so scary after all.
