<spoilers>
First of all, I do think the book has a good prompt. I found the idea of painting anonymous confessions incredibly interesting. But I think it wasn’t explored enough. We only see the real significance of it and that started in the last chapter. Throughout the rest of the book the paintings and confessions don’t play a role as big as I thought they would and it was a bit disappointing.

Auburn and Owen’s entire relationship is way too rushed, which makes it unrealistic to me. Maybe it’s just me, but I felt like their first time meeting lacked a little bit of a build-up. It’s obviously possible that they feel an initial attraction towards each other, but it’s the first chapter, they don’t even know each other properly, and like a chapter later it’s as if they’re completely in love. There wasn’t any sort of hesitation or tension when Owen hires her, which seemed a little off to me considering Owen was basically trying to make Auburn follow him inside an empty building by herself. Like, she fully trusted a random guy just because of a ‘help wanted’ sign? At least he pointed that out later on.

I really liked the backstory behind how Owen knew Audrey, though. It was really sad, especially because Adam was one of the few characters I liked, but it was one of the only parts of the book that actually made me feel something, along with the prologue. However, I do think it was a waste to reveal all that only in the last chapter, given it was connected to everything else.

Also, it wasn’t enough for Trey to be controlling and abusive, he had to be extremely annoying too. Him and Lydia were terrible, and that’s all i have to say about them.

This was my first Colleen Hoover book, and it wasn’t terrible but I guess because of her hype I expected a lot more both in terms of writing and plot.

re-read:

3/5. this was kinda lame. I also hated (and I mean hated) his name. I'm sorry but why would you make the conscious decision to name your character Owen Mason Gentry.

Anyway, it wasn't completely horrible, but it wasn't groundbreaking either.
