i hadn’t read a colleen hoover book before, but i read it as a buddy read with my friend and i only finished it because i want to reach my reading goal. i didn’t like any of the characters and there wasn’t much plot to make up for it. both of the guys are really problematic and the sex scenes were badly written, toxic and it didn’t seem like there was consent. owens art was ugly and i wish we didn’t have to see it, if it had just been described i could have imagined it instead of having to look at the pictures. overall it was very boring and i hope i don’t ever read a book similar to it.

This was the first collen hoover book I ever read and I hope it will be the last. The only reason I actually finished this is because I was buddy reading it with a friends and she needed to finish this book to reach er yearly reading goal. I hated all the characters and it was so incredibly boring that I sometimes chose to do absolutely nothing over trying to finish this book. I wish the book hadn’t added actual photos of Owen’s art, because then I could’ve at least imagined that he was a good artist. I thought the sex scenes would’ve at least been kinda decently written, since collen hoover is known to have a lot of sex in her books, but even the scenes where both characters gave consent, it seemed like I was reading a non consensual sex scene. I hated this book deeply and it showed me how little i could care about a story.

The ending made the discomfort and frustration felt during the majority of this book a little more palatable. If you want to be
Spoilerp*ssed off at a POS cop abusing his power and grow tired of a bitchy MIL withholding a child from their birth mother, look no further. The scenes depicting the sexual violence are not graphic but are triggering for sure.
if you want more of an emotional (have tissues on hand) romance arc with less gore and suspense than Verity, this may be for you! Also, rest assured that nothing happens to the cat :)

First Coleen Hoover novel I've read and I now understand her popularity. I enjoyed this book so much I actually wish it was a bit longer so some parts could be explored or expanded further. The confession inspired art was a cool idea and I liked the inclusion of the art images in the book too. I thought Owen and Emory were great, I love their individual dorkiness and found them interesting. The main character I didn't have such a connection with, she was boring and weak and so the strength she finds at the very end doesn't work for me. I really liked how the ending explained the connection, very sweet.
