I think this book was so good until the end and honestly it ruined the book for me.

This was a pretty disturbing look at a male teen's eating disorder. Disturbing in that it was raw and real, but also really hard to read at times. Matt also has a lot of family issues and he's gay with a crush on a boy whose friends bully and intimidate him. Matt thinks starving gives me powers of ultra observation and thus navigates his high school with pain in his stomach, but an all seeing eye. I'm not sure what crowd would enjoy this book, but it would definitely be a conversation starter for high school and up.

Rep: gay Jewish MC, gay Muslim Syrian love interest, Jewish side characters, Muslim Syrian side characters

While reading this, I was so sure this is going to be 5 star read, maybe one of the top books for 2023 - I was even considering a favorite! - but... something in the ending didn't to it for me.
Is it that Matt and Tariq wasn't even given a chance, is it that it ended up with the "power of love" bullshit, I don't know. But something there took out the enjoyment I had with the rest of the book.

This book took me so long to read, but it was ok. Super corny at times, but ok. Matt’s start of with the quiet anger and it gets bigger. And it was super boring to. Some of the quote in this book were nice and made me love my body a little more. I bo like the ending and how he channeled that anger into something beautiful. But it still wasn’t very entertaining.
