I put this off for so long and as usual, I'm regretting it! So well done! Definitely full of the typical tropes but if ya fae warriors are your thing then this is it. I do not say that in a ugly way. I LOVED this book. Very well written. And I'm sorry for team Wilder babes but FRAZER IS HER MATE!

Not for me

Some times a story just feels like everything is set up so that the author can make the big ole journey of self discovery happen in the world they created. And along the way they forget to make you give a damn about the characters.
100 pages in I still didn't know why I was supposed to care about the main character.

I don't quite know where to start. There were so many beautiful, and heatwrenching moments in this book. The tone and imagery alone were enough to keep me interested, but the plot and subplots where something else entirely. This story has so many moving parts, and it was so satisfying as several of the pieces began to come together. My only complaint is that I wasnt aware that it was to be a part of a series and not a stand alone. if you are inpatient and don't like having to wait to get the satisfaction of a conclusion, I would recommend you wait until more books are published because I can promise you, it is going to leave you wanting more.

I’ve reread this book a few times now (mainly for Frazer ❤️ (I mean who doesn’t love a slightly morally grey grumpy best friend?)) and I really enjoy the story, I only have one problem which is our main character’s internal dialogue. She seems to have a very limited vocabulary in terms of describing her feelings because it is so, so repetitive. It just makes her sound whiny, and makes me feel incredible annoyed in the middle of an otherwise enjoyable and heartfelt scenes. This may be intended but there are only so many times I can hear about her voice catching in her throat, or her ‘horrifying’ experience, and I swear to god if I hear her ‘summarising all of the events leading up to that moment’ one more time… is it too much to ask for some nice cute dialogue about life changing experiences instead of one sentence about a characters reaction

Well, it started well

At about the halfway point in this book, it felt rather like a Sarah J Maas take on the Hunger Games aaaand it went downhill from there. Grammatical errors really started distracting me from the plot and I feel like the latter half of the book was rather rushed. Potential spoilers below

After Serena's visit to the witch in the woods the storyline feels like it skips from one idea to another, oh maybe we could go that way, no let's not have them lovers, or could we just have everything just go to hell in a handbasket? I really wanted to like this as it started out so well, but I was underwhelmed. I enjoy watching authors grow, though, so I may still give a sequel a read.

I liked this book, I will admit I wasn’t a huge fan of the main characters complete willingness to spill her guts to everyone she meets about everything. And I felt the relationships were a little weird at times.

However, the writing was good enough that I got sucked in and couldn’t put the book down. I am definitely looking forward to reading the sequel. A book doesn’t have to be perfect in order to make me happy!

Too long--like two novels in one, one of them being a Sara J Maas knockoff that editors should've known about and helped tease out from the rest of the story.
