Better than the first book but still much longer than it needed to be. Dragged on in places, but the final battle was a good read.

The Great Hunt was such a captivating book! I listened to the newly recorded audiobook by Rosamund Pike, and her narration is phenomenal. She brings so much intensity and characterization to the work.
The worldbuilding exploded in this book! While the world and history already felt large in book one, they were mostly only hinted at. Now, the characters traveled far and wide, met different people and even strange monsters. The Sheanchan were particularly scary and intriguing, with their conquests of coastal villages and enslavement of people who can channel.
Rand is still the most annoying main character out there, but the rest of the cast is so well-developed and gripping that I was able to ignore the two phrases he repeats over and over again (“Tam was my father!” and “I am NOT the dragon reborn!”). What happened to Egwene was shocking and crazy; Nynaeve’s test was the most emotional part of the novel, and Captain Domon is the character I am most intrigued by – his collection of weird artefacts is deeply fascinating.
The group of characters being split allowed for a lot of development and side characters, which is perfect for this type of heroic fantasy story.
The climax’s action scene was, once again, confusing and unclear, but that detail aside, the book was perfect. I am utterly shocked at how easy a book this long and part of a series this intricate is to follow in audio, but the slowness with which the story is written makes it easy to follow along, and Rosamund’s narration makes it so easy to recognize characters and even ethnicities.

Though the book has a slow start, once it gains momentum it never slows down. The ending of this book makes me feel like the story it truly beginning in epic proportions. Wonderful story!
