That she could make all the plans she wanted, but those didn’t much matter when fate stepped in.
And that memories were more precious than she ever could have imagined—and sometimes, it turned out they were all that anyone had left.

There was so much history there, so much warmth and friendship and hope. Beth knew that no matter what, George would always be a part of her life.

Thank goodness that series is over. I was not a fan. Boring and so predictable and superficial.

Terrible! I was so angry at this book, it felt so stupid. Bennett was a bad choice, Kelsi, and how can you not care about Peter and Taryn but fucking go crazy over Peter and Ella, like she wasn't even a good friend either! Beth and George's relationship was lowkey just annoying like drop him already from yo life, boo. Love Ella, but Jeremy is meh. I was just not here for this book, this series feels like it repeats past issues like cheating for every single couple, and it gets annoying after a few books. I just can't even with this book, like idek why I even read this 2-star series.

My goodness! These girls infuriate me sometimes! I liked how the series ended but I also am a bit peeved at some of the things that happened in this book.

SpoilerFirst off, Kelsi. She started out the series as one of my favorite girls because she's a lot like me. But she ended up being the girl I didn't understand anymore. I HATED how she told Bennett to take the residency in New York when HE DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE IT. It's one thing if he really wanted the job but it's another thing entirely if he felt like he didn't belong there or that he was changing into someone he didn't like! Yes, she has to be supportive. But pushing your boyfriend into a job that he thinks he won't like is really stupid. Seriously. I didn't understand AT ALL what happened there. (And I still miss Tim. Bennett is nice and all but I guess because we didn't see them really fall in love, I don't have that connection to him.)

And the thing with Taryn pissed me off a little too. Taryn was being a complete...witch! I was with Ella the entire time. I don't like Taryn AT ALL. And I was kind of angry at Kelsi that she just let her go with Peter. Are you supposed to ... I don't know ... make sure your friend isn't going to get duped by the same guy you were? She said she "told Taryn about him" but it felt like she didn't actually really TRY to convince her. We never got the full story about Taryn and Peter which also angered me a bit. I wanted her to get thrown away actually. ... I guess I'm a mean person.

Now Beth. I think I liked her a little again. Trying to move on and at the same time be friends with an ex is hard. I don't know from experience but my best friend is doing that right now. I think Abbott captured that pretty nicely. So no real complaints with the girl. She was rocking.

And then, there is the savior of the series, Ella. First book I hated her. And then somehow she became my favorite summer girl!!! But I was angry at the summary on the back of the book where it said that she was "upset about Peter hooking up with someone." Because although that is true... she was upset because TARYN was hooking up with him not because she was jealous! SERIOUSLY. That summary is SO MISLEADING. Ella is still completely in love with Jeremy and that's why I love her so much! Because she knows exactly who she wants and isn't all wishy-washy about love. And I loved her jealousy over her sister. It makes sense! Ah, Ella totally saved this book!!

This book was a nice wrap-up to Abbott's Summer Boys series. This book is about what will most likely be the last summer for all the cousins to be together. It involves the secrets, drama, and pain of growing-up and finding yourself that the first three did. I did notice some timing issues in this book that didn't affect the story too much, but were a bit annoying. For example, book three mentions Ella sitting being a senior (she sits in the senior row at school assemblies), but then this book talks about her going back to school for her senior year after this summer. As mentioned, it doesn't really affect the story overall, but could be annoying to those who read the books one after another and pay close attention.
This story ends on a hopeful note for each of the girls, but still open-ended which was good. These girls are all still young and will have plenty of life experiences coming their way, so it would have felt weird if Abbott did a "happily ever after" type of ending.
Overall, a fun ending book to a fun and light series - a great read even if it's not summer.
