I could watch you for a life time… living over 300 years and never leaving your mark.

To be honest I was expecting more of a love story with Addie & Death like in Belladonna by Adalyn Grace. Whilst I don’t like making comparisons both these stories have a haunting beauty in two very different respects.

You cannot deny the beauty of this book. It’s poignant, reflective, beautifully written. It’s regret and not regretting, it’s about making the most of your life and time. It we make you think and feel  what one would do with making a deal with death. You really feel every despair that Addie experiences and then what Henry does too.

It’s not for everyone, you won’t have a HEA but rather leaves it up to you to decide what happens between Adeline and Luc.

I enjoyed the beginning of the book, especially when Addie becomes immortal and the mechanics of how it works, that she will never be remembered by anyone etc. The ending was also decent, but the climax just fell flat for me. Addie as a character didn’t feel special at all. She asked the gods to grant her wish, fully aware of the 'be careful what you wish for' warning, and knowing it was the dark god who answered her. Yet, after her wish is granted, she acts like an entitled character, angry at him. Then, over time, she ends up in a romantic relationship with him.

Later, she meets Henry Strauss, who is bisexual, and they fall in love almost immediately. He also made a deal with Luc (the devil) to be liked by everyone, but only for a year. There wasn’t any real chemistry between them. In the end, Addie somehow manages to bend the deal with Luc, agreeing to be by his side for as long as he wants, but not forever. It felt unrealistic—she’s dealing with a god, after all, and acts as if she has control over him.

Even Luc, the dark god, was questionable for me. He’s supposed to be this all-powerful entity, yet he falls in love with Adeline? He’s a god, duh. It just didn’t make sense. Overall, it’s confusing what Addie truly wanted. The constant back-and-forth in time was repetitive and didn’t add much significance to the story.

Almost DNF this book. Maybe it's not just my cup of tea.

this was a really fun time! this book sat in a tbr pile beside my bed for a while bc i thought the premise was interesting but ultimately not new; happy to say i ate my words on that front!

Addie’s story is much more interesting than the usual “I’m immortal and suffering” thing you see with vampires and the like; she was much scrappier and didn’t come into handwavy wealth like a lot of authors lean on. she starved, stole, fought, spied, and plotted to survive, and it was so refreshing to watch.

ultimately my favorite part of this whole thing was how badly she gagged Luc; she was so wonderfully self-aware about not being in love, just liking the idea of someone who knew her. She flat out does not love him, and doesn’t think him capable of love either and tells him so. even with Henry she is really honest with herself; she cannot possible stay with him, but she loves and cherishes him in the moment.

What a refreshing, cool heroine. a slippery but fallible antagonist, and a really sweet (if temporary) love interest. jolly good show

Spice - not really there is allusion to, brief perfunctory, kisses and lead up, closed door and morning after.
Triggers - SA, death, drug abuse, mention of thoughts of suicide

Unlike time, memory is not linear. Addie LaRue made a bargain with the darkness for her freedom, now she must spend the rest of her existence living with the consequences of that bargain. Immortality can be very lonely, especially when every interaction is fleeting and you cannot make any marks or changes on the world.
This is a roller coaster story of love, heartache, and self-discovery. The character of Addie LaRue may be invisible but you will not forget her.
Bring tissues.

Cute story. More romance than I expected. Interesting twists. A bit too predictable for me though.
