& Story: (4.5) ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨

Here I am again with another 4.5-star review, haha. This was great, the cast was excellent and exciting and the plot moved FAST! So much happened so quickly and so little was explained, it irked me just a bit. That's not the fault of this book though, we're in prince Caelan's POV for most of the book and he's so lost & confused – how can he give me answers & exposition when he himself has no idea what's going on?

The reason it's not a 5-star read for me is actually the romance surprisingly enough. Caelan & Drayce's romantic vibes just did not hit right. Maybe I'm overly protective of Caelan already, or even overly suspicious of Drayce – but I just was not invested in their romance at all. (Rain & Ino are the best though and seeing their romance unfold was incredibly enjoyable! Especially with Rain's ex-boyfriend coming into the mix!) Curious to see where the God Stones take Caelan & his crew in the next books!

Very good in classic Jocelyn Drake style. I do so love all of these boys, but I will say that so far I am much more attached to Rhayne/Eno than Caelan/Drayce.

Okay, this is basically gay FFXV fanfiction and you know what? I'm *so very* here for it. There are definitely differences, but also, like.. so many similarities that you can't unsee it. And I'm 100% okay with that.

What I liked...
1. The Plot revolving around the Godstone Saga and the surprises along the way.

2. The 4 men iat the center of this saga. Technically, Prince Caelen is the hero of this book since he has the powers linked to the godstone, but there are 3 other men with him that are just as important.
Drayce is Cael's best friend, Rayne is his advisor and Eno is his bodygaurd.

Eno and Rayne have circled each other for years.
Caelen has harbored a crush on hos best friend for years as well, and Drayce has too. Though neither of them know the other's feelings.

3. The steam: Although it was secondary to the main plot, it was still got when it hapened between one of the couples. Also one half of this couple turns put to be possesive and jealous and so i was very very happy.

Niggles...

1. There was some inconsistencies with the way of talking. Sometimes they would be very formal, and other they would use the word shipping.

2. The world building was a bit off as well. There were GPS and gunpowder and bars but the feel of the book was also very medieval. The way the castles were described it felt old. It was like a mix of urban fantasy and high fantasy, but I thought that they didn't mesh well.

3. The beginning was slow for me and I honestly struggled to finish the book. It took too long to actually be done, and I skimmed. I thought some parts could have been shaved off.

I received an ARC from GRR and this is my honest review.

Nothing about this was interesting to me, sadly.

I really wanted to love this. More than anything I want to love this however I have to admit defeat and saying this makes me cringe so hard.

I am 30% into this book, and I’m bored. Full stop. I tried and tried and every time I picked it up I read a couple of pages (half hour at most) and then put it down and that was only because I’d already become so distracted I didn’t see the point in reading anymore. The worse thing is I know I’d probably eventually find it interesting enough to move forward however being as I’ve been suck at this small as spot for the past 5 days I’ve had to let it go and move on.

This reads like a modern fantasy – and yes, urban fantasy is the name for that, but it’s not really how it is. it’s an odd and somewhat off mix of both urban fantasy and historic fantasy and interestingly enough I really liked that aspect (I am more an urban fan tho, so not surprising). I even liked the idea of the magic, at least the parts that I learnt in the small amount of time I’d been in the book. I just felt every word I was reading, every sentence that went passed.

The relationships, both pointing towards romantic and friendship/other were I guess what didn’t do anything for me, but what do I know, it was very classically the very beginning on their story.

The thing is I’ll probably try again, because I want to know what’s going to happen in the end and let’s face it people love this book, I can’t really say either way that you wouldn’t either

This book was good and yet I struggled with it at the same time.
I enjoyed the set up of the characters and the plot line of the Godstones.
There were definitely inconsistencies that lead me to losing myself to the world.
I believe I will continue the series but not right away.

This is NOT fantasy. It's URBAN FANTASY set in a fantasy world. That means there are cars, buildings, modern things just like in our world, just in a fantasy continent. Honestly, not my vibe or what I wanted when I got this based on the blurb, which has zero indication that it has modern things.
