Be forewarned this book contains pretty spicy sexy times. Honestly, I know it was a draw for some people, but I didn't need to read it so many times in quick succession. A nice build is just fine but, man, once they broke the seal they literally burn about 3 chapters just boinking. It kinda took away from the story.
I was very intrigued by the concept and the first two or three chapters hooked me right away. I was excited! A cool idea, a new world to learn, and the main character was a likeable sass master, which I love. But pretty quickly she becomes distracted by the gorgeous stranger she is now traveling with. The book would probably be a third shorter if she didn't spend so much time distracted by his beauty. It took away from the story and had me asking: "is this a romance story or fantasy story."
Also not sure why it was tagged lgbtqa.... one nb character? Bri was vaguely suggested to like women? Let's just say this book is absolutely heterosexual. Like really bad cheesy tropey heterosexual at that. If you're looking for a fully lgbtqa world/theme/main plot then this is not the you.
All in all, the story was cool. I enjoyed the concept and world enough to finish the book as well as look forward to book 2!

~~Technically 3.5 stars but I went up because the good outweighed the bad for me. ~~
Overall, I enjoyed this book, I just didn't love it. I really like the premise of this book - witches & witch-hunters, fae & royal courts, and being on the run. It's an interesting scene for a world, and I have to admit that I quite enjoyed adventuring in it with the main characters. I liked the way the magic worked, though would have enjoyed that being explored in more depth. There were some really beautiful visuals in this story that have stuck with me even after finishing.
The story itself was interesting but I felt like the characters didn't really evolve at all. I needed more tension, more challenges between them. And there were quite a few times where I felt parts of the story were far too like other stories (ACOTR, Harry Potter (believe it or not)) which I found distracting, which also made a few things a bit too predictable, while other parts of the story just happened without explanation.
BUT all of this aside, I still enjoyed the book. I think this would be great for people just starting out in the fantasy genre, or for those who want a quick light-hearted read between books. Definitely worth a read.

Wow! This book was excellent. I love Remy and her story. I love all the characters and love Hale too! High Fantasy romance novel at its best. Can’t wait to read the next one.
