I’ve recently really loved reading popular science books, and when I saw this text I couldn’t resist. I have loved palaeontology from a minute age and the latest discoveries and geological updates were amazing - so much has changed since I was a boy! From the ability to determine dinosaur colours, to changes in their phylogeny and relationships with other organisms. Michael J. Benton’s writing style is also admirable as he combines wit with an almost self-deprecating vibe that becomes infectious to read. I can’t recommend this book highly enough!

Hate to say it but… did I read the same book as everyone else? Having been team dinosaur since I can remember watching BBC’s Walking with Dinosaurs way back when, and then rewatching it another dozen times, I really wanted to like this book more than I did. It unfortunately felt like it dragged on at times, much like the pace of many of its subjects. Although it was extremely well-thought out and written quite well, I can’t recommend this as someone’s first foray into dinosaur literature. I thought there were some great nuggets in here but it plodded along at far too dry a pace for me overall.

fantastic book that i would recommend for everyone. tidbits from this has dominated all my conversations for the last two months and I send everyone pictures of my favorites passages, graphs and illustrations. it's easy to comprehend even without much prior scientific knowledge, although the science will still rock your socks. there were times I gasped out loud, I cried, I giggled.

An extremely interesting read that made me reflect on concepts of dinosaurs I hadn't even though of, and taught me so much.
