This book was an interesting connection to the oppressive ways and roots of America in comparison to the caste system. It was well written with anecdotes but a bit repetitive (but what can you expect when discrimination based on race and class is so prevalent in this country and world). Would recommend reading this for some important pieces of information!

This was the glue I needed to bring together my experiences and knowledge. All I can say is that it all makes sense, AND this book gave me the tools to continue my journey. As Wilkerson writes, "We can be born to the dominant caste but choose not to dominate...It [is] up to each of us to accept or challenge the role we were caste into." This book led me to the following questions: How can I listen better? How can I step back and humble myself when in BIPOC spaces? How can I use my dominant caste status to create fissures in the caste system?

This book is a large departure from Wilkerson's debut, [b:The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration|8171378|The Warmth of Other Suns The Epic Story of America's Great Migration|Isabel Wilkerson|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1433354252l/8171378._SY75_.jpg|13341052], in which it takes away the most interesting framework/content of the former, opting instead for micro-stories that are mostly irrelevant contrivance and a broken record of racial platitudes but added to the word, 'caste'.

Great book. Although I don’t recommend the audiobook as a tool to stay awake while breastfeeding in the middle of the night.
