I felt that the lost plot wandered away a little from what I was expecting from this series. Having said that, I massively enjoyed the dragon politics, and the spy vs spy stuff.
But the multiple worlds can get a little lost in each other which makes it a little samey in places, and the overall plot didn’t feel too different. Plus we didn’t get any Vale, which is a crying shame. And not enough Kai either. Mostly just Irene being super librarian and we’ve covered that pretty well in the first three books.
Irene does get to show off her smarts, and it was nice to see her not always figure everything out at once. Any time she out smarts people is always fun. I wanted more fae, I feel they lend that chaos to the plot that shows this series to its best, but the dragons are always awesome, and the scene near the end was fun (if terrifying) to imagine.
All that said, it’s well written and fun, and easy to read. I listened to the audio book and the narrator was fabulous.

It’s a pretty good book and I’ve read the earlier books in the series, but for me personally this entire series so far has kinda been a struggle to read. I don’t really know how to describe how it’s been a struggle, but it has.
Minor: Suicide, Gun violence, and Kidnapping

I somehow had way more trouble getting in to this book than with the others in the series. I think the fault lies with me though. I think I just wasn’t in the mood for this right now.

I am not normally a reader of fantasy novels, but the "Invisible Library" series caught my because, well, libraries. So, I delved into the first two novels of the series before reading the Advanced Readers Copy of the upcoming fourth book in the series. All are enjoyable, with well developed characters and well thought out plot lines. They aren't "hard core" sci fi/fantasy. Reading three within a month was a bit much for me, but I will continue to look for the series as more titles come out.
Recommended for fans of the "All Souls" series by Deborah Harkness and readers of light fantasy with a touch of rommance (much less than All Souls, though).
With thanks to the author, Genevieve Cogman, and the publisher, Pan Macmillian, for the advanced reader copy through netgalley.com
