it was interesting, i just hadnt seen the movies he was talking about and felt like i was not getting the whole experience but i dont want to watch his movies. I liked the behind the scenes look though and would want this perspective from a newer filmmaker

When I was a kid I used to imagine all the elaborate ways “movie magic” happened and this book totally outlines it all but didn’t feel like a magician giving away his secrets…it was so much more exciting than that

Love hearing about a process I've taken for granted thousands of times in my life, especially from one of the best journeyman directors to ever do it. The writing is not dry but doesn't stand out much either. Needed Fail Safe to be mentioned more than like once or twice. I guess my only real gripe is that he spoiled Murder on the Orient Express (which I planned on reading later this year).

A book about the craft of one of the greatest directors to ever live. Such simple prose allows Lumet to provide consistently interesting commentary on how movies are made. All killer no filler.
