Uugh. Granted, there are some good lines and images in this, but otherwise most of these poems feel trite or unsurprising or unnecessary. At their worse, they made me super uncomfortable (see first poem, "If You Really Love a Writer" which, at it's best, can only be taken for extreme dry sarcasm.) Feels more like a personal journal.

I love Megan Falley and find her work so inspiring and heart wrenching. This isn’t my favorite collection of her poetry but it’s still excellent.

Megan is powerful. And sweet. And sad.
Megan is our voice.
Read this collection of her poems... I will again and again and again.

I don’t read a ton of poetry, but I enjoyed this.

I loved it. It was real, relatable and just overall beautiful. I loved every poem and found myself tabbing up almost each one. She is amazing and inspiring both in writing and on stage.

A friend gifted this collection of poems to me for my birthday. I was pleasantly surprised by the fantastic nature of Falley’s poems. Several people have referred to the word “gut-punch” when discussing her work. While this is true, it should be noted that this is not a negative interpretation. Rather, these poems are heavily realistic – realistic about the social issues women face, about love and loss, about family and nostalgia, about surviving. While there were a few poems that did fall flat or paled in comparison to the star pieces of this collection, it’s clear Falley is talented and growing poet. I can’t wait to read future collections from her.

Poems from this collection that I recommend: “Family,” “Fat Girl,” “The Pink Ribbon Parade,” the combination of “The First Time I Met His Mother, Christmas Eve” and “The Last Time I Met His Mother, Valentine’s Day,” and “Irrational Anthem.”
