This book is like a warm hug and a hot cup of tea. A beautiful portrait of a world that has figured out a much gentler way of living with, instead of cutting through, the nature that came first. Yet, Dex still feels something missing from their life. So they go into the wilderness, hoping to fill the space, and find their purpose. What they do find, and learn from a new friend, is much more important than a vocation.

One of the most beautifully written books I’ve read in a long time. The world the author created is gorgeous, lush, and heartwarming. Reading it felt like sitting with a warm cup of tea :) Can’t wait to read the second installment!

I can’t say I have strong opinions either way on this book. I can see why so many people liked it but it just lacked the same appeal for me. I think I just had different expectations for what this book would be.

I gobbled it up in one sitting. A tasty, well seasoned piece of fiction with a sprinkle of teasing existentialism.

I think this is my new favorite book. Everything about reading it was just comfortable. This is a revolutionary world seemingly post-conflict and post-want, where a person's greatest struggle might be with themselves. Also, I now have a new favorite robot.

Just incredible - a new favourite. This is a low-stakes, slow-paced character-driven novella that absolutely captured my heart. I loved literally everything about it from the solar-punk worldbuilding that explores a sustainable future, the way all the characters care for each other, and the soul-soothing messages at its heart. I enjoyed the sense of history and culture on the lush beautiful moon, and was intrigued to learn more about the mysterious robots. I loved the travelling, non-binary representation, tea ceremonies, and the conversations between the monk and the robot most of all. There were soft touching moments, but also light-hearted silly moments. The ending felt so satisfying and pulled it all together in a lovely way - I can't wait for the next story to see what these characters get up to next!

4.5 ⭐️s. THEY CUTEEEEEE. This was such a warm hug of a novella. I know everyone says that, but they say it because ITS TRUE. Adorable characters, interesting world, Becky Chambers' signature cozy sci-fi style. Some surprisingly deep insights that made me think. Lurved it.
