Easy,  fun, and wonderful use of the english language. Utterly silly and preposterous but wonderfully endearing.  A perfect palette cleanser.

Alongside the Raffles emails, I've been getting the Jeeves stories of P.G. Wodehouse emailed to me on the regular. They're harder to log on this site due to the magazine publication history, the rewrites, the re-releases, and so on, but I've been tracking it to mark down the books accordingly.

These stories are a delight and much of the humour holds up remarkably well. "The Great Sermon Handicap" and "The Purity of the Turf" mark two of my favourites thus far. I've never seen writing that so perfectly reflects the spirit of the story, every word-choice completely in line with the type of events that play out. No one can walk anywhere, but will rather float or twaddle or totter accordingly. Wooster's manner of speech (his truncations espesh) feels so modern, even when his lifestyle does not.

Maybe I’ve read this before—I’ve certainly read some Wodehouse in high school, but this is one of the only books I’d say is meant to be read aloud. Loved it on audible and when I was a kid I was initially introduced to Jeeves by my dad reading them to me before bed. I found myself giggling out loud like a child throughout the audible.

Another pleasant and surprisingly funny read by Wodehouse. I was keen to read a second of his books featuring Jeeves and I’m glad I did - he is such a wonderful character full of subtle wit and always saving the day.

It was a very lighthearted and unserious story about the upper class and their trials and tribulations in life and love, but an enjoyable read at that. There’s a certain joy from reading Wodehouse’s books and as with the previous one I read from him, they’re a much welcome break from some more serious, literary reads every now and then.

This is a collection of short stories that link into each other - Bertie often refers back to episodes that occurred in the previous stories. Bingo is a reoccuring character, falling madly in love several times throughout the book (with a waitress, with a revolutionary...), and naturally Wooster makes things worse, before Jeeves hauls them all out of the mess. So many parts made me laugh out loud - Wodehouse's use of language is just so brilliant. I'd like to paper my walls with Wodehouse quotes.

...

As of August 2009, I am "re-reading" this by listening to an audio version.

Oh, what fun! Made me smile and giggle throughout. My first Jeeves and Wooster and, apart from a very short story, Wodehouse is also new to me. This is a collection of interconnected short stories of Bertie Wooster getting into situations with family and friends and Jeeves, his butler coming to the rescue. His friend Bingo Little features in several of the stories, continually falling in love, inappropriately, at first sight, and also Bertie's young cousins and his aunt Agatha.  Witty and full of sarcastic humour, and I loved the language Wodehouse uses. I needed a break from my usual, more heavy reads, and this definitely fitted the bill. I have a collection of Jeeves and Wooster stories on audible, read by Stephen Fry, and I will definitely listen to the others when I need a giggle.
