Pretty good

Great story. The action towards the end of the book was so good. I found myself growing impatient each time a chapter came to an end. Ready for the next book

I read this book quite quickly, which is usually a mark of my liking it. This was in the same "world" set up in book 1, but following a different set of characters (who we know from book 1, and we still see Eli/Casey from the first book). This felt a little more "bodice ripper romance" albeit in a sci-fi/paranormal setting, than the first book (although there was plenty of sex there too). Lots of language as well. But I did like the characters and the story.

Grabbed this for my free Kindle lending library book for May.

A re-read ... audio this go round. Five years since I first read the book. Surprised at how much I remembered (as sometimes I struggle remembering first books in a series if I have a wait between installments). In some ways, it was good to have the same narrator as the first book, to keep the consistency. On the other hand, I wasn't sure if the voices of Galena and Dec were different enough from Casey and Eli, although Galena did have a very young, innocent sound that was fairly distinct.

While I do still like the series, and enjoy this unique world created ... the sex/love story just felt a little over the top. I know that's probably the favorite part for some. Maybe it just felt even more awkward with audio, as I imagined having to read some of this out-loud myself, I'd be embarrassed!

It's been nice to get in a re-read, something that doesn't require the constant concentration of an original experience.

I enjoyed this book very much. I didn't read the first book but this book was very interesting and had me on the edge of my seat. I liked the character of Galena and think she is very relatable even thought I will never be a scientist. The book was a very busy book with lots of interesting things going on. Thank you to Netgalley and 47 North for giving my a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review*

I received an eARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of this review.

Claimed by Sarah Fine is book two of her new Servants of Fate series and picks up a week after the events of book one Marked. Galena Margolis is on the verge of discovering a vaccine that will put an end to the diseases plaguing mankind. When her volunteers begin dying suspiciously, she realizes that someone is out to stop her. As the Ferry's look to protect her with the help of the Kere, Declan Ferry steps in, fulfilling his father's last request: "Protect her and you protect the future." But protecting her comes at a high price.

I think I should preface my review by saying that I LOVE Sarah Fine! I've gobbled her books up like they are candy in the last year and a half and I was so excited when I received her newest series for review. Like seriously made my week :D

What I am loving about this new series is that each book can be read as a standalone novel, with each novel featuring two newish characters as the main characters with a unique plot that ties into the overall series plot. Claimed features Declan Ferry and Galena Margolis, both of whom I first met in Marked.

Declan is Cacy's older brother and chief at the EMS station where she and Eli work. I [icon name="fa-heart"] Dec! He's just amazing. He finds himself disenchanted by the work the Ferry's are doing and he is seriously considering turning in his scope which means that he is ready to give up his immortality. He's not happy and seems a bit lost at the beginning of the story. His only reason for continuing is the charge his father left him: "Protect her and you protect the future." In protecting her though, he finds himself falling for her and I have to say it's super sweet just how far he is willing to go and how much he is willing to give up for Galena.

Galena is Eli's older sister and I fell in love with her through Eli's eyes during Marked. She is a force to be reckoned with in my opinion. She suffered a horrific event that Eli touched on and it is expanded in Claimed. In spite of what's happened to her, she stays strong, she continues her work to develop this vaccine, and she does it all without asking for any help. She's focused and determined to fulfill her fate and I just love it! When Dec enters her life, she finds herself ready for more and to move past her nightmares. She's willing to explore possibilities that she originally thought closed to her. And that my friends makes for an awesome read!

The plot of this story is similar to the last book. Someone is after Galena, trying to stop her work. It's a fast moving story, filled with strained romance and suspense. If I'm being completely honest I think I liked this romance much more than Eli's and Cacy's story. Why? Very simple. Galena and Dec are older, slightly wiser and put each other before themselves. They focus on what the other may want instead of their own wants and besides all of that it's just a really sweet relationship that blossoms between them. One I rooted for throughout the book!

I was pleasantly surprised to find how much I enjoyed Claimed. I'm not one to usually like it when an author changes the characters in each book of a series but it works with this one! Not only does it add to the overall plot of the series, it's a nice change to see each of the Ferry siblings find love. My only complaint, and it's the same one as in Marked, are the sexual scenes. I felt they were overdone and personally I could have done without them. I don't need details if you get what I mean ;)

Other than than the book is fantastic! I love that I got a few answers to questions from the last book, namely who is working against Moros, but also new questions have come up. I'm excited to see just where the series is heading and I'm hoping that book three will feature Moros and Aislyn. I'm very curious about the eldest sister!

If you enjoy New Adult, science fiction, fantasy with a bit of mythology thrown in, and paranormal romance, I highly recommend you check the series out! It doesn't disappoint :D

From where I just jumped straight into this after Marked at first I was confused at the change of main characters. But I began to love it. I loved learning about Gelena and Declan in detail. I also loved the way she described and showed how Gelenas trauma affected her. As I find some authors struggle with this almost forgetting its a long emotional journey to get to be completely comfortable again. But even then Sarah made sure to enforce that this was only the start of Gelena's healing process as the trauma still affected her every day. I've honestly fallen in love with the writing style she has even though its completely different to the style I usually read.
Most of the twists and turns within the plot i really didn't see coming and its hard to explain them without spoiling it for others. So all I'll say is that it really shocked me as it was nothing of what I expected it to end up being

This was the second book of the Marked series and I have to say it was DEFINITELY better than the first. While I was definitely not feeling the romance in the first novel between Cacy and Eli, I absolutely loved the two characters featured in this sequel.

While the first book was written from Cacy’s and Eli’s points of view, this book centered around Galena and Declan. Galena is brilliant and determined to continue her research despite her past assault and recent threats. Declan is … well, he’s just hot, especially when he gets all protective. So I guess that’s why I found myself totally not minding all the relationship subplots.

In addition, I think the plot itself was much better in this sequel. The alliances are coming to a head (Aislin, Rylan, Moros, etc) and the denouement at the end, revealing the mastermind behind all of the unMarked deaths, was quite exciting!

The world that Fine has created is definitely the best part of her novel. I love that it takes place in post-apocalyptic Boston, and her ideas about the afterlife and the supernatural forces associated with it are creative and interesting.

I am definitely looking forward to the third book in this series. I’m just hoping that it doesn’t switch back to Cacy and Eli again.

This trilogy has been so good so far. I have loved getting to know all the characters and the story is awesome.
