One of my favorite books of all time. I fear if I start writing this review in further depth, I will never stop.

A horror story, a haunting tale. A poetic display of love, loss, and the meaning of life. An understanding of the despicable nature of war in a way I have never experienced in another novel since.

I return to this book time and time again.

the greatest war novel written?? possibly. and I think this statement comes from the way this novel is written and the themes compared to other war novels. this is powerful, because it does not glorify war. it doesn’t romanticize giving your life during battle. it does however show how all of this effects the person.
war trauma isn’t a new topic but i do think this is flawlessly done.
also only 4 stars because it’s not a personal favorite. i acknowledge that it is great.
