Still beautiful, still mildly horrific, still fantastic. More importantly, we love to see things go horribly wrong! We love to see it!

I definitely feel like we're deep in the story now, no longer on the outskirts coming inward. I'm excited for the new developments.

The first half of this was just soooooo much talking and politics and complicated interacting factions and I just couldn't keep track and also didn't much care and finally, the battle happened. The book is so much stronger there for me - the stakes deeply personal, relatable (disturbingly relevant given awful recent events - extra weird when there's stories of cats and magic making you think of terrible real world wars - but this is the power of Liu's writing). The art, as always, is top of the pile (though... it's starting to feel a touch rushed compared to the mind-blowing lavishness of earlier volumes). I suspect I will keep coming back to this series but likely need to embrace that Liu has an enormous, complex story that I'm not 100% the right reader for. I crave some of the simpler, less talky and political, earlier stories. But I think when it's all collected it'll be a canonical graphic novel.

This series is so fucking good and I just don't understand how the internet isn't full with fanart and very vocal shipping of Maika and Tuya.

This comics, between being a fantasy epic and having so many queer characters and so much rep of diversity and disability and politics is a queer fangirl's heaven.
