The paris secret is a world War ii historical fiction. The story of 4 intersecting women's stories of the war. Skye and her flying. Margaux and her stone cold face, Liberty and her strong emotions and Catherine and her hope. Kat discovers how these women are connected to each other and herself.
.
At first I was hesitant due to the pages, all 462 of them. I was also hesitant due to how people raved about this one. But I gave it a shot. I am so glad I read it. I didn't want to put it down.
.
I loved how the little mystery to it, not that it was actually a mystery but the secret behind it all. I loved the way it was connected and told. I loved the characters.
.
As someone with a B.A in history, that took many classes about World War II, I enjoyed how this did discuss topics that still aren't widely talked about.
.
Was I in love with the ending? No, but I was actually happy with it and accept it.
.
I will definitely be recommending this to any historical fiction fan. It does have a brief open door scene that can easily be skipped. It does have some definitely content warnings, I would gladly let you know if you want.

I didn’t love most of Kat’s parts. Her stuff really only became interesting towards the end when we start connecting the dots.

I’m so mad about how this ended though. Mad as in heartbroken for Skye and Nicholas. Why would Skye never question Liberty, all Liberty has proven is that she lashes out to hurt Skye on purpose. And yet Skye never is like hmm I wonder if she was telling the truth.

Also, the claiming-a-new-identity-after-the-war-and-never-speaking-about-the-war-ever-again thing has become a trope. Is that what all WWII fictions are? The 4 I’ve read have all been that way. Was that actually so common or was it rare but known to make a great story?

I did love how NL kept the historical accuracy. Maybe the characters weren’t the ones who did these things, but real people did them, real women did them. That makes this an amazing book. It’s upsetting to learn about the heinous things done after the war was over. The fact that the government just ignored concentration camps because it was too difficult to deal with the aftermath of freeing them?? How did any of them live with themselves? It makes them no better than hitler or any of the nazis.

Back to the book. The writing was great, it’s a long book but I was never really bored. While I didn’t care for Kat’s parts I also wasn’t bored with them. I just preferred Skye’s story.

I didn’t love this one as much as the seamstress. As it went on it got better. I don’t love to trope of the WWII storyline and the parallel modern day one with some item that ties the modern to the past. I feel it’s so overdone so that may have shadowed my thoughts.
If you love war stories add this to your list. It does touch on some aspects that are less than typical.
