The plot of this book is good i really enjoy what its about, i just really hate the characters. Not only the assholes, but definitely also Lily. It’s not that I don’t feel bad bc not anyone deserves it, but even when the guys do bad things she always comes back and forgives them in 3 seconds… and that’s bullcrap.
But overall besides the character it is a good plot, i just wish it would’ve been a little more grownup.
—> might pick the other book up sometime, but not really sure if i think it’s worth it.

Too repetitive, too traumatizing and infuriating.
I want all of these characters to freaking die a slow and painful death.

To be honest this rating may be a little unfair. I couldn't finish the book once I was clear on who the love interest was. It just didn't work for me. I was routing for Grayson.
The story was great and I loved where it was heading but I just can't get past who she ends up with, they just didn't mesh well for me. I have recommended it to friends who I know will probably love it.

The Last Witch: I is a paranormal/urban dark fantasy with a romantic subplot. This book has quite a bit of triggering content and will make you feel uncomfortable while reading, so be warned.

I really struggled whether to drop this book or not. Our main character, Lilly, who is the last Arcane witch of her line, is essentially rescued from her family's cellar and traded into another prison by another group of witches. She is rescued from decades of abuse and more, and brought into a place where she is subjected to more violence and coerced. What made this hard to finish was the whiplash of some of the characters. Typically, when I feel like the main characters are being unreasonable, I try to put situations into my own perspective and ask, "if this happened to me, would I or other people I know behave like this?"

SpoilerLilly ends up falling for Gabriel, who is the younger brother of Grayson, the man who initially rescued her and is pining for her affections. Both brothers are supposedly over 500 years old, but they behave like children. I suppose its stereotypical to think with age always comes wisdom, but you would think 500 years of interacting with people would make their interactions with Lilly more reasonable? I was honestly appalled. Yea sometimes immortality can lead to madness sure I can imagine that, but they behaved like jealous and vindictive men. I was really disappointed.

Lilly's character gave myself and it seems like many other readers whiplash. However, I feel like while INCREDIBLY frustrating, she was a 21-22 year old and I found it more reasonable for her to make a lot of selfish decisions without thinking of the consequences. Some of it was her reacting to situations where the people she was with were not giving her the space to deal with things in a way outside of her trauma, which, while I could be like 'thats stupid', you do stupid things when you are reactive and traumatized.

I also found this book poorly edited. I do recognize that there was a lot of UK spelling used and I'm chill with that, but I do find the frequency of spelling and grammatical mistakes enough to lower my enjoyment of reading it. I appreciate how hard people work to write their stories and get them out there, but the lack of proofreading really affects my and others enjoyments.

I have started Volume II and I do feel like it is getting a bit better, but tbd whether I completely drop or not.

Really like the idea behind this story.
However, character development is so frustrating as soon as they move forward they take even more steps backwards making even the main characters hard to like.
Story became repetitive really quickly, and ridiculous amount of trigger warning situations that don’t add anything but doom and gloom to the story and become unnecessary.
Unfortunately I tried to get through the full series but couldn’t and don’t plan to continue.
