This is a sweet second chance romance but it mostly just made me mad. I don't like Lacey's ambivalence with her family and that she has such a poor self image. By the end we know why, but still it's pretty annoying to read for that many pages.

Neither Lacey or Karson have been able to really move on from each other; they both lost pieces of their hearts when Karson left 9 years ago. Karson has to go back to Chicago for a game and they literally run into each other. It's as if time hasn't passed at all. They are instantly drawn back together and they swear to make it work this time. Lacey still doesn’t know the reason that Karson left all those years ago and Karson is afraid to tell her. It doesn't stop them from vowing to move forward together despite their differences and the past. Can love conquer all for these 2 amazingly strong, willful people? Will the truth of the past make Lacey choose between Karson and her family?
I loved seeing the players from the other Assassin books! Philip being my absolute favorite! The only thing about this book that I didn't really care for was Rachel. I know she's being loyal to Lacey's father, but she is supposed to be Lacey's best friend and sister-in-law. I was bothered by her obnoxious behavior and her lack of support a best friend of over 10 years should have. She was selfish and didn't care that Lacey was happy and I wanted to smack her. Karson was the most patient, sweet leading man I have read in a while. He and Lacey have awesome chemistry and hilarious banter.
He had door-busting shoulders, toned and thick in the most delicious way. He was magnificent.
"Maybe I was, but it's different this time. I actually have this feeling in my chest for her."
"You're right, but Karson, you are the one that took my heart."
"And I don't plan on ever giving it back."
"Yes, we will. How will we survive?"
"One orgasm at a time, " she said.
"My love for you is so big and abundant that it takes over my soul, my own being. You are everything to me. My heart, my soul, my existence is made to love you."

Eu amei o casal? sim. Achei incrível eles terem ficado juntos rápido?? sim. A fato deles fazerem s3x0 todo capítulo me irritou? mais do que muito, tudo acabava com eles na cama, fosse coisa boa ou não e isso me irritou profundamente porque isso empurrava os problemas deles pra frente e em vez de conversar eles acabavam na cama até que tudo explodiu e não precisava. Toda a besteira do final poderia ter sido feita com mais calma e ao invés foi tipo: eu sei o que é melhor pra você e vou te machucar pra você poder ter isso mesmo eu sabendo que você me ama e nunca vai seguir em frente.
O plot podia ser o mesmo mas porque a escritora tinha que seguir exatamente o mesmo curso de praticamente todos os casais desse série? eles ficam junto brigam voltam alguma coisa acontece e eles se "separam" até que um dos dois vai atrás e se desculpa. O final realmente não foi legal pra mim apesar de eu ter amado o casal. E apesar de eu estar dando uma nota alta eu provavelmente não leria novamente

I really thought this book and I will connect. At least I had hopes we would.
I enjoyed the first books in this series and thought maybe it was time to reconnect with it. (I skipped the last couple releases)
The heroine is a breast cancer survivor,—like me— and I'm always curious to read about tough and empowered heroines in my romance books, so the least I can do is applaud the author for her choice to feature one and approaching the subject.
As a matter of fact, I grabbed this paperback at a book signing where I met the author. I was actually eager to get to it, but not too much, sometimes you just want space between you and cancer—even in a book.
If I learned one thing during my 3 times fighting cancer and meeting with other women chatting about our diverse experiences, is that fighting and surviving cancer is tough. Overcoming it is not easy, life takes a new meaning to you, your perception of what's important or not is forever altered. But life GOES ON and it doesn't have to be nasty and gloomy. Personally, I became more aware of my chances and try to enjoy the smallest things but man, I'm still as cynical and sarcastic as ever! lol
Yet in this book, I just couldn't get past the way the author portrayed some aspects of living through breast cancer treatments. Everything felt WRONG to me.
I'm very well aware that we all have our own personal hang-ups about disease and not everyone will live through it the same way. Yet, I just couldn't accept the heroine's attitude. She deserved the award of the most annoying heroine I've read this year—if not ever— and thought her portrayal was a disservice to any woman who lived through or still battling cancer. Personally I felt outraged and upset by her rather than sorry and compassionate for her. Whiney, sickly insecure, naive to the extreme, blind to her surroundings... Simple-minded doesn't even cover her personality.
Furthermore, the whole book basked in this Jerry Springer show vibe, with a psychotic dad intentionally hurting his daughter, a hero with a personality of a rescue dog and the heroine constent sullen and morose temper it's by pure obstinacy and a lot of skimming that I finished the book. The whole thing was too much and toxic to read.
Not even the romance between Karson and Lacey could save this story, but I'm giving Laces and Lace one star to Karson and his family for the cheer they brought to the book. Each appearance was like watching a cute puppy video on the internet on a sad rainy day.

Karson was awesome; Lacey and her family, not so much. It dragged from the middle to the end. I became annoyed with Lacey. Self sabotaging when you have family members and a best friend to do that is overkill.

I finished In The Crease and rushed to read this right after, so no quotes from me today. This was nearly a 5 stars from me.
Nine years after not seeing one another and fate decided it needed to end. One night a very sad Lacy and a drunk Karson literally run in to one another by chance. It seems like nearly a decade didn't mean that any feelings faded. One night turned into another, and the next turned into a forever.
Lacey's family is a manipulative mess. For years she allowed them to dictate her life and when she finds Karson again she decides to take the reins.
I adore Karson King. The way he talks about Lacey makes my cold heart warm. He's such a dream it's almost sickly sweet. One of the reasons this was a four stars was because while he completely adored her, I didn't feel the same strong feelings from Lacey. I wish she trusted Karson more and was just as whipped.
Regardless, I still loved this book. I could feel the connection between these two. It reminded me that love doesn't know time or hurt. It knows two hearts that aren't to be together.
This story can be frustrating because Karson is dreamy, but Lacey and her family are making things difficult. I don't think you should give up. Watching two people in love always has it's obstacles, but it's the best when they push through it.

This isn't really a spoiler, but just in case I added it. Toni Aleo writes steamy sex scenes like no other. Now when you have a sexy hockey player who worships women it only adds to it. But that one sex scene between Lacy and Karson had me dying. They decided to try a new some fun butt stuff. Not only was the sex written great, but also the communication. I love when couples are written communicating well during sex because it's very important. On an end note, can I have a Karson?This story can be frustrating because Karson is dreamy, but Lacey and her family are making things difficult. I don't think you should give up. Watching two people in love always has it's obstacles, but it's the best when they push through it.
