There are 4 chapters in this book which give unparalleled insight into the setting of the world of 1st century Judaism. Then it is followed by 13 chapters of historical and biblical criticism which is so easily debunked that it is uncanny.

A lot of E P sanders points are easily rationalised away by simply saying ‘it doesn’t make it any less true’

A recurring thought I had while reading this book: ‘so many of these liberal theologians, who try to reduce scripture, can’t accept the simple solution that the bible and the message of the gospel are true’.

Just read the first few chapters then save yourself the hassle.
