Initially hesitant to put 5 starts, weeks later - a strong 5 stars.

I've had a few weeks to digest this short but sweet book and I keep coming back to it.

When you are reading a book, you have no idea the lasting impact it will have. You can make assumptions about it based on whether or not you like reading it (while reading it) - but you can't look ahead into the future and think to yourself, "yeah, this is up there."

There are times when I thought "oh-fer-sure, this is gonna be in the top of all time..." but then it just fades and I forget even the major plot points.

This book is not that. This book is great. It is a top tier book. Go read it.

Some stories sneak up on you then tackle hug you until you can’t breathe. Hollis Woods isn’t perfect but she’s vulnerable and honest. I loved this story with all my heart, and the images painted by the author will remain with me for a long time. Highly recommended for readers ten and up.

I loved this book, the descriptive pictures, how she saw life, the characters, and it was just so sweet.

Just reread it and wow. Wasn’t prepared to weep over this. It was my favorite book in middle school, and it still holds up as a tinder portrayal of someone who just wants to feel like she belongs.

I carry a bit of Hollis Woods with me everywhere I go.

Although I read this book many years ago, I still enjoyed reading it a second time. It's a sweet story that reminds us that everyone wants and needs a family.

What a great book! Could not put it down so finished it in about 3 hours. Depicts very well the harsh world of a foster child and how little they trust anyone even those who show they care. I would say it should be read by kids over the age of ten due to the troublesome nature of the subject matter.

Very well done. Really liked all the characters and the way the story was told. Quick light read that hits the heartstrings.
