I felt like it took too long for any real drama/action to happen. There are secrets that were hinted at to give the reader a purpose to continue reading. Not much was resolved at the end of the book. I'm assuming so that fans will continue on with the series. I would like to know what happens/happened...and why everyone is keeping secrets. Instead of reading the series, I would much rather read the spoilers. It isn't a bad book- it's just not a genre I was familiar with, so I decided to try it out.

At first I wasn't sure I would like the story, not having any faith at all in the author of 'this' kind of book. But boy, was I wrong. I love how Beverly Lewis writes and this was a treat. There are a number of characters but all easy to remember and easy to understand, even though the Amish culture is way beyond my way of living. I believe I laughed and cried during this read and was so excited with the story I couldn't put it down. I even called work to ask if they could get a hold of my co-worker to bring the next book in the series before her shift started. The thing I love most about these books is how it gets me in the mood to be a better believer and above all to clean and have a more productive day...once the book is finished. :) This has been my favorite series so far, all the Abram's Daughters.

I’ve never read a book based on Amish life and beliefs. I found it really interesting and enjoyed the story.

It was really heart wrenching and I love how all the sisters have different personalities. Really good read, I’m going to read the rest of the series.

I’ve always been intrigued by Amish life.

Not sure Amish fiction is my favorite, but I figured I should read one at some point...and this was free. I really enjoyed the use of Amish/German words; until I got acclimated, it felt like another world. But I think I probably would've preferred a "modern" Amish book...this takes place in the 1940s so it's a blend of historical and Amish fiction, and I'm not sure which parts of Amish life were old-fashioned because they were Amish, and what was because it was the 1940s.

The first portion of the book was mostly establishing characters, and it wasn't until the second part of the book that I started to be able to differentiate relatively minor characters and some interesting things started happening. Unfortunately, it ends with basically no threads resolved, so it's one of those books that is part of a series crafted to make you keep buying. I believe it is a romance, but it seems to mostly be about other relationships and dreams--the lead character even notes that family comes first.

Gonna work on some Beverly Lewis fanfic this summer :). Interesting note: a character in this book gets pregnant but at no point in the story is sex ever mentioned. The only word that is used to refer to sex in the whole book is "sin."

This book gets off to a slow start, but keeps getting more interesting the further you read. Some parts are very predictable, but there are also a few things that were resolved in ways I didn’t expect. Lots of loose ends when it is done, so you definitely need to also read the next book in the se riots.

Good story, loved the characters, intrigued by the storylines... and then it ended. With little resolution. I hate that.
