““Your grandmother used to say that you were two souls separated in heaven. She mainly meant you were both trouble and deserved each other.”

Ok, so while I will eventually reread the rest of this series (for the purpose of attaching a CAWPILE and star rating to it), I think my reading taste may have evolved out of the Kristen Ashley Era.

Context: This was the first romance book I ever read. It was what lured me in to the genre and made me the reader I am today, so I have a lot of respect for it in that regard.

Rock Chicks is a contemporary romantic suspense novel following India Savage, a bookstore owner in Denver, Colorado. She’s been in love with her best friend Ally’s older brother Lee since she was little, but has been avoiding him ever since he called her ‘like a sister’ before he went off to the military. But now she’s gotten herself into a little bit (a LOT) of trouble, and Lee’s making it clear that not only is he going to get her out of it, but she won’t be getting out of HIS life anytime soon.

One thing to note immediately is that Indy does not feel like a 30-year-old protagonist, she feels nineteen. She flirts with everyone under the sun and makes some bad decisions, but that’s par for the course. If you are someone that gets hung up on logic, give this one a pass.

Also, a lot of crazy stuff is jammed into this book. Car bombings, multiple kidnappings, shootings, car chases… its just a lot. I feel like this book would have been better if some of it had just been taken out and it was 50-100 pages shorter.

I really wish this was as good as I remember, but ALAS, tastes change.
