Canadian kids don't really relate, but if you do the story with props, they get really excited to feed the old lady.

Have you ever read the book, "There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly?" Well, this is another one just like it....set around Thanksgiving.
My favorite thing about this book is all of the new words that readers can be introduced to. Words like "rumbled" "murky" "pallid." See why children's books are amazing?
I did find the end page a bit weird (she became a balloon in a parade!). But overall, I smiled. I want to do this book in storytime soon!

I was disappointed in the ending. The old lady ate the entire Thanksgiving feast and turns into a balloon for the parade. Not my favorite book in the series.

Annotation A cute adaptation of I know an old lady who swallowed a fly. This book has great illustrations and allows the reader to follow the story and how much the Old Lady eats with how big she keeps appearing on the page.
Age appropriateness This would be a good book for 4-7 year olds
Connection to six early literacy skills This is great for narrative skills. Because each page builds upon the last, students need to understate that the story keeps building.
Five practices This world with reading and singing. This rhyming pattern often is read in a sing-song pattern.
Opinion This is a good book to read with older children who can understand how stuffed someone can become when they eat a big meal. The pictues help draw the reader through the story and it is somewhat of a surprise at the end. I think this would be a good read especially if student where already familiar with the original version of the story.
