I thought this was a good book. It was definitely engaging and interesting however it is absolutely beyond me that some people think about these books as books of fiction. Like how can you just imagine these things in such detail? Weird

If I had to describe this in one word: Haunting.
This was superbly written, and the way that it unfolds and slowly reveals Lex’s (and her siblings’) past and trauma is so well done. You slowly come to understand Lex, as well as her siblings and (even) her parents. Life is ugly, people are ugly, and there’s lots of ugliness here. But there’s also humanity and understanding and forgiveness (where it’s deserved).
While I can’t speak to the reality of being a survivor, this books seemed to me to really get at the heart of how trauma can affect people differently, how recovery is different for all, and how the past can impact individuals in varying and lasting ways into the future.
I thought this, while heavy, was extremely well done, the characters were all compelling and human (I’m really cheering for Lex), and the writing kept me wanting to keep opening the book even when I didn’t have time to read. Definitely going to keep an eye out to see what this author writes next.
