“Under the bludgeonings of chance, my head is bloody but unbowed.“

letters to the lost deals with themes of grief, guilt, romance, judgment and art all in the setting of a high school in maryland. two teenagers deal with healing from loss with the help of each other, their walls slowly breaking down as they aid one another through the process.

it’s a fun read, albeit a bit boring at times. not much happens in the book, but juliet and declan’s emotions and relationships are complex enough to keep you hooked.

WOW. What an amazing ride this book was. It's raw and real and powerful. The story is so well plotted out and so well written, I can't stop marvelling at it.

Mental health and familial relationships are depicted deeply and tangibly, and you can't help but feel for the characters. They're reserved and they're open, and their stories are REAL. It's something that could happen to anyone.

Both Declan and Juliet's character arcs are amazing. Actually, I've never read better supporting characters either. It's something you imagine or hope might happen, and it's well written.

Kemmerer's writing is flawless and I can't believe it's taken me this long to read a book by her.

Trigger warning - depression, suicide.

LOVE the idea of this book! Typical boy and girl hate each other and end up falling for the other!
Only thing was that I feel like the main characters were maybe just a bit harsh and sassy....
if this was real life they probs wouldn't be together!!! :O

"I don't even know you, but I feel like I understand you.
I feel like you understand me.
And that's what I like so much about it."

I think I love Brigid Kemmerer. This book left me in a million pieces, and I love it. I love the way her characters feel so real, and everyone had such a great and complete back story. Don’t mind me, while I dive directly into the second book set in this “universe”, and while I hope for an appearance or ten by one Declan Murphy.

I loved it! For some reason, I wasn’t very interested in this story until I heard about a sequel, but I wish I had read this sooner. I just loooooooove Declan!
