An oldy, but a goody, once you get the rhythm of the writing.

I struggled with the language a lot so it was not always clear to me what was happening. I enjoyed it when I knew what was taking place but that only made up about 10%. I'll research and revisit as I think it was a good book that was just lost on me.

I was really looking forward to this book but I just had a hard time following along. I guess I just need a lot more practice with this older writing style. Between antiquated words that I wasn't quite sure of, and the rambling sentences that made it hard to follow the narrators point, I found myself backing up and rereading repeatedly. The end was a bit unexpected and unexplained, and I still never quite got what was going on or what was supposed to be quite as evil or wicked as the introduction had hinted I would encounter in the story.

This is a really interesting book. I think I missed some of it because I read it as an audiobook, but from what I captured, this was a compelling story.
(Although I may be biased because I was already familiar with the story through The Haunting of Bly Manor.)
