This instalment is all about exploring consequences and the many ways we can’t leave our regrets or our pasts behind (unless you’re Jim, who has no regrets to revisit, it seems). It’s the chance to really get to know Alex, Naomi and Amos and allows them to show their previously half-glimpsed depths (rather than Jim’s take on them; and I love the many ways in which he is or chooses to be blind about his crew).

I have no cool and no perspective on a reread. It doesn’t pack the visceral punch second time around - first outing, Marco’s attack hit me in a weirdly personal confronted-by-own-unexamined-vulnerability kind of way - but the emotional impact of the personal journeys remains and only gets more complex on further acquaintance.
