Así que, en octubre, Albert recibió con bastante escepticismo los rumores sobre un armisticio. Les dio tanto crédito como a la propaganda del principio, que aseguraba, por ejemplo, que las balas de los boches eran tan blandas que se estrellaban contra los uniformes igual que peras pasadas, y provocaban las carcajadas de los regimientos franceses. En cuatro años, Albert había visto la tira de tipos muertos de risa por el impacto de una bala alemana."

Así empieza esta novela que te atrapa desde el principio, una historia de amistad, de los horrores de la guerra y de las consecuencias de esta, de relaciones complicadas entre padres e hijos y entre amigos, con toques de ironía y un humor negro muy negro a veces,con un malo muy malo y unos buenos muy buenos,una novela muy cruda que me ha tenido angustiada las 450 páginas, la verdad es que no esperaba un libro así, ha sido una gratísima sorpresa.

I was sceptical about this Lemaitre given the subject matter, I've read my share of 'war' literature over the years and was a bit lukewarm about it, but I was on holiday and had read what I'd taken so ended up reading something my partner had in our kindle library and which they recommended. Perhaps I should have been less reluctant to take the recommendation! I really liked this, it's very much post war but totally centred on the impact of war. It has everything I like abut Lemaitre's work, wonderfully crafted plot lines, characters that are so alive and not generally that likeable, a total lack of sentimentality, and alway a little something that you weren't quite expecting. I was engrossed and devoured it.

Λεμέτρ δεν είχα ξαναπιάσει στα χέρια μου. Διάβαζα ότι γράφει αστυνομικά. Αυτό εδώ είχε θέμα που άγγιζε τον πρώτο παγκόσμιο, κι ενώ είμαι σε μια διάθεση να διαβάσω κάτι ελαφρύ, χωρίς κανέναν λόγο ξεκίνησα να το διαβάζω.
Πόσο σπουδαίο πράγμα είναι αυτό που διαβάζεις να είναι σαφές. Η πλοκή, οι ήρωες, οι ανατροπές, οι περιγραφές. Πόσο σπουδαία δουλειά έκανε εδώ ο συγγραφέας...
Τι χάρισμα είναι αυτό που μια εποχή σαπιλας λόγω πολέμου, και λόγω σιχαμένης ανθρώπινης φύσης μπορείς να τη φέρεις στο χαρτί χωρίς να μαυρίσουν τα σωθικά ( που μαυρίζουν αλλά λέμε τωρα) όσων διαβάζουν.
Μαύρο χιούμορ ξεπετάγεται ύπουλα και σε ξαφνιάζει από τις πιο αναπάντεχες στιγμές, αγωνία και προσμονή για το τέλος - κάτι που μάλλον το συγγραφικό του ιστορικό τον βοηθάει - ήρωες που αναπτύσσονται μέσα απ'την πλοκή χωρίς να σε κάνει να βαρεθείς σε καμία περίπτωση.
Όλες οι ερμηνείες του " Γκροτέσκο" βρίσκονται μέσα σε αυτό το βιβλίο.
Το λάτρεψα.
Διαβάζω ότι είναι τριλογία και αυτό με κάνει ακόμα πιο χαρούμενο.
