I was worried after the first few pages that I wasn't going to like this book. It seemed like it was going to lean towards racist or sexist, but, in fact, I found it was more of a satire on a civilization still focused on these things instead of facts. I really enjoyed the points that the author made (or I believe he was trying to make). I am interested in reading more of his books. Long Live Argon and our wonderful moon.

I don't remember much about this book, other than there being a girl with red hair in it. I liked it okay, but I felt like it was cheap vonnegut. someone recommend better Tom Robbins to me!!

I read this for the first time when it was published in 1980. This is one of a handful of books that I go back and read on a regular basis, at least every 2 to 3 years. It never fails to give me that same sense of awe and amazement as it did the first time. It was my ticket to realizing that I didn't have to see the world like everyone else did.

I see from reading the reviews of this novel that it seems to be one of those "love it or hate it" books, with very few people taking the middle ground. I'm one of the folks in the "love it" camp. I loved it when I first read it (some 18 years or so ago), and I'm loving it now that I'm reading it again. Still Life With Woodpecker is typical Robbins fare, so if you like his recognizable style, you'll like this book. If not...

man... I'm finding this to be tedious.
Ok... finished it. It was fine, but not as good as I expected it to be based on the good things I'd heard about it. Meh.

Kind of cool writing style but the philosophical sections were boring and the gratuitous sex/female body descriptors were gross
